I love making wine. The first release of Willem Kurt wines in 2014 simply marked the beginning of the next thirty years of my career, rather than a culmination of the previous 17. I am driven to make individual and unique hand crafted wines that I feel are complex, balanced and approachable.
I source fruit from exceptional vineyards in Beechworth and the Alpine Valleys. I take a very minimal approach to wine making, enabling the wine to express its varietal qualities, and the nuances of the season in which it was harvested. Having purchased a parcel of land on the edge of Beechworth in 2017, planting of a vineyard is underway and the journey continues.
The name Willem Kurt is derived from the middle names of my two children. Willem has been used for generations in my wife’s family and is reflective of her Dutch heritage. Similarly, Kurt is reflective of my German heritage
