I love making wine. The first release of Willem Kurt wines in 2014 simply marked the beginning of the next thirty years of my career, rather than a culmination of the previous 17.
I am driven to make individual and unique hand crafted wines that I feel are complex, balanced and approachable.
In 2017 my wife and I purchased a parcel of land on the edge of Beechworth and began planting. With a great deal of hard work, the 2022 vintage marks the first in which all Willem Kurt wines are sourced from our own vineyard, and the first ever (as far as I am aware) Vermentino from the Beechworth wine region.
The name Willem Kurt is derived from the middle names of my two children. Willem has been used for generations in my wife’s family and is reflective of her Dutch heritage. Similarly, Kurt is reflective of my German heritage
